Piece counts by box size

Heart-Shaped Box Sizes and Capacity

A 10 × 10 cm heart box holds about 10 standard 2.5 cm chocolates in one layer. A 15 × 15 × 5 cm box holds roughly 40–50 across two layers, and a 25 × 25 × 8 cm box holds about 180. The figures below assume tight packing with no insert tray; a moulded tray typically reduces capacity by 15–25 percent.

Capacity chart

Sizes are internal. Piece counts assume a single tight layer unless a depth column allows two or more layers, and no insert tray.

Internal size (W × H × D)Heart floor areaChocolates, 2.5 cmTruffles, 3 cmMacarons, 4 cm
10 × 10 × 4 cm≈ 70 cm²≈ 10≈ 113–4
12 × 12 × 4 cm≈ 101 cm²≈ 16≈ 175–6
15 × 15 × 5 cm≈ 158 cm²40–50 (2 layers)≈ 278
18 × 18 × 6 cm≈ 227 cm²60–72 (2 layers)≈ 3912
20 × 20 × 6 cm≈ 280 cm²75–88 (2 layers)≈ 4815
25 × 25 × 8 cm≈ 438 cm²180–210 (3 layers)≈ 7524
Insert trays change the number: a moulded or folded tray with individual cavities usually costs 15–25 percent of the count, but it prevents movement and keeps the arrangement presentable.

Why a heart box holds less than a square box

A heart covers roughly 70 percent of the square that surrounds it. The two shoulders and the notch at the top cannot hold product, so a 15 × 15 cm heart behaves like a 12.5 × 12.5 cm square. Use the formula below to check any size you are considering.

usable_floor_area ≈ 0.70 × width × height pieces_per_layer ≈ usable_floor_area ÷ (item_footprint ÷ packing_factor) item_footprint: 2.5 cm chocolate = 6.25 cm²; 3 cm truffle = 7.1 cm²; 4 cm macaron = 12.6 cm² packing_factor: 0.75 for tight packing, 0.55 with a tray

Then multiply by the number of layers that fit the internal depth. A 5 cm depth holds two layers of 2.5 cm chocolates with no clearance; a 4 cm depth holds one layer plus the lid clearance.

Frequently asked questions

How many chocolates fit in a 10 cm heart box?

About 10 standard 2.5 cm chocolates in one layer. A 10 × 10 cm heart has roughly 70 cm² of usable floor area, not the 100 cm² of its bounding square.

Why does a heart box hold less than a square box of the same size?

A heart covers about 70 percent of its bounding square. The shoulders and the top notch are unusable, so a 15 × 15 cm heart performs like a 12.5 × 12.5 cm square.

What depth do I need for macarons?

A macaron is about 2 cm thick, so 4 cm of internal depth allows one layer with clearance. Add 2 cm per extra layer and allow for the tray thickness.

Can I use a heart box for flowers?

Only with a water source or a lined interior. Standard sweet boxes are not water-resistant, so flower arrangements normally need an inner tray or a bouquet-style lid.

What is the minimum order?

Heart-shaped boxes start at 100 pieces for standard sizes. Custom printed runs start at 500 pieces, with 7–15 business days for production after artwork approval.
